The Decision Support & Analysis team provides finance business partnering support to Science Unit functions. Core deliverables include: Providing robust, quality month end financial information to business teams; provide challenge to forecasts to ensure these are based on sound planning assumptions & resource decisions are prioritized & optimized both across the function / R&D; finance; deliver adequate financial input & analysis to support individuals & teams to make effective business decisions.
The Finance Analyst roles are seen as experts in the execution and delivery of data and analysis to support business decisions. They will operate flexibly and efficiently to reduce lower value finance activities enabling excellence and new ways of working. They are global roles covering all financial activity across function regardless of core location.
This role will be deployed to the functions across the MedImmune business area and will provide support to customers in Gaithersburg & Cambridge.
Typical Accountabilities:
The Global Business Analyst will be viewed by finance and business customers as experts in the execution and delivery of data and analysis to support business decisions. The role includes the following key components:
Business Strategy & Decision Support:
To provide support to key business & investment decisions, coordinating data collection from a variety of sources and formats, providing analysis in support of business options, and enabling appropriate decision making by Finance Business Partners
Providing accurate, high quality financial analysis in support of business decision making for multiple Finance Business Partners and Finance Managers
Delivering ad hoc financial analyses in support of Medimmune Finance Business Partners, Managers and the Performance Strategy & Reporting Team requirements
R&D; Business decisions to be supported would include (based on value & risk): Strategic change programmes, investment propositions (including organizational re-shaping exercises), sourcing strategies and sourcing decisions, commercial and/or procurement endeavours
Business Performance:
To be accountable for complex, manual accounting journals, to communicate monthly performance, and provide analytical and data collection support to business planning processes
Producing monthly financial management information, explanation of variances to budget, and commentary for key finance and business customers
Reviewing and challenging more complex, business area specific , month end journals and devising appropriate, efficient processes to support those journals
Working with Finance Business Partners, Finance Managers and Business Customers to prepare accurate forecasts to support regular and ad hoc business updates, using appropriate leading edge, modeling tools
Co-ordinating ad hoc data collection activities on behalf of Finance Business Partners and Finance Managers
Continuous Improvement, Coaching & Governance:
To support continuous improvement in Finance processes and capabilities and to ensure compliance with financial governance and control frameworks as appropriate.
Identifying opportunities to improve working practices and processes in the Decision Support Team,
Ensuring compliance with AZ Financial Controls Framework and SOX requirements for month end processes
Coaching new Business and Junior Analysts in their provision of support to finance planning and business cases
Measures:

Feedback from finance networks within and outside of R&D; Finance
Clean audit & compliance reports
Timely, accurate and insightful performance reporting
Evidence of continuously improved processes and quality tools

Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
5
years experience as a Financial professional with financial model, forecasting and/or business decision support
Strong analytical and financial skills with a customer service/delivery focus
Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
Strong understanding of functional cost drivers with proven ability to communicate findings to customers
Preferred Requirements:
Previous Accounting System experience
Experience of working in a global organization, preferably the pharmaceutical industry, and of the drug development life cycle and commercial aspects of the industry
Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and liaising with senior managers
Experience of working in a customer facing role with proven finance business partnering capabilities and skills
Good cultural awareness and exposure to global working
