Responsibilities The positions would serve as Health Scientist Administrators (Program Officer) within the NIH Office of the Director (OD), Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI), Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP).
Established in December 2011, ORIP's mission is to support research infrastructure through innovation.
This activity is focused on extramural awards in support of research resources, including animal models for human diseases, cutting-edge scientific instrumentation, construction and modernization of research facilities, and research training opportunities for veterinary scientists.
Through continued engagement with NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices and the biomedical research community, ORIP's activities empower and expand existing programs and develop new initiatives to support NIH research.
The two ORIP extramural program Divisions - the Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) and the Division of Construction and Instruments (DCI) - manage approximately 450 extramural awards.
DCM supports programs to develop, characterize, preserve, and improve mammalian and non-mammalian models for human disease and to develop the workforce essential for support of animal-based research and resources.
DCM also supports resource activities to develop, characterize, and improve animal models for human disease and to diagnose, study, and control diseases of laboratory animals.
DCI supports programs to modernize research infrastructure, including shared research resource facilities, research instruments, and scientific equipment.
A Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer) provides technical leadership and scientific guidance on research infrastructure that supports basic and translational research and facilitates understanding, treatment, and prevention of human diseases.
These positions offer opportunities to develop and lead research infrastructure programs on the cutting-edge of research.
POs work collaboratively with others to advise on future research infrastructure directions that encourage research in critical areas, develop targeted research infrastructure programs to foster innovative and high impact research, interact with investigators in diverse scientific areas, assess progress of awarded grants and contracts, and serve as experts for the scientific community and the public.
Candidates with experience and knowledge in one or more scientific areas related to basic and/or translational research and the interactions between them are invited to apply.
Of particular interest are candidates with expertise in:
1) animal models for research in health sciences, including vertebrate or invertebrate species, animal genetics, molecular biology, and other relevant areas; 2) scientific instrumentation such as X-ray diffraction systems, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometers, DNA and protein sequencers, biosensors, electron and confocal microscopes, cell-analyzers, biomedical imagers, biomedical devices, or bioengineering; or 3) construction and modernization of research facilities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
