More about the role:
The Senior Data Engineer will join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the processing, storage, and interpretation of clinical whole exome and whole genome sequencing data.
The desired individual will have prior experience with data management in a high-throughput setting and will participate in designing, implementing, scaling, and maintaining pipelines, databases, and archives.
They will be a strong communicator who advocates for robust development practices, participates in code reviews and mentoring, and helps develop and maintain appropriate documentation of system design.
ResponsibilitiesImplement, test, validate, and deploy custom ETL pipelines and data warehouse solutions for the processing and storage of large-scale clinical genomic dataContribute to the maintenance, updating, optimization, and scaling of existing databases and pipelinesProvide mentoring for junior and mid-level developers in feature implementation and good development practicesAct as an advocate for coding standards, team organization, and test-driven developmentAssist with supporting and troubleshooting deployed applicationsCreate and maintain documentation of system requirements, design, and troubleshootingRequirementsBS or MS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline5
years of professional data management experience, preferably supporting scientific pipelines, databases, or applicationsProficiency in one or more major development languages, python preferredPrior experience processing large datasets including data ingestion, management, and performance optimizationProven experience with SQL data modeling, query development and optimizationFamiliarity with code versioning tools and best practicesWillingness to dive in and learn existing software code and workflowsExcellent communication skills and a team attitudeEssential on-site and Customer-facing employees must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination; medical or religious exemptions considered.
